Swedish violinist Mirjam Charas Östergren (born 1985) has played solo and chamber music recitals in Sweden, Norway, United States, and Italy. She substitutes in the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Stockholm Royal Opera, Västerås Sinfonietta, Norrköping Symphony Orchestra and Gävle Symphony Orchestra.
She has also played in musicals such as Evita (Göta Lejon, Stockholm), Livet är en schlager (Cirkus, Stockholm), Kristina från Duvemåla (Cirkus Stockholm) and Fiddler on the Roof (Uppsala Stadsteater.
Mirjam has received scholarships from the the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm, Rotary Sweden, the Swedish Building Worker Union’s Culture Award, S:t Johanneslogen S:t Erik and Indiana University, USA; Dean’s Scholarship and Summer Festival Orchestra Scholarship.
Mirjam holds a Bachelor of Music and a Master of Music degree from the Royal College of Music in Stockholm as well as a Performer Diploma from Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, USA where she studied with Professor Henryk Kowalski.
Mirjam is an enthusiastic violin teacher and has studied pedagogy with Professor Mimi Zweig at Indiana University. She also worked as Professor Zweig’s teaching assistant at Indiana University Summer String Academy in 2009, 2010 and 2011. In 2012 Ms Charas founded her own violin school in Stockholm – Mirjam Charas Violin Academy AB.
