Curriculum Vitae
Mirjam Charas Östergren is a Swedish violinist and violin teacher.
She has studied at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm (KMH) and Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, USA.
At KMH she earned a Bachelor and Master in Music as well as a Degree of Bachelor of Arts in Upper Secondary Education. She also holds a Performer Diploma from Indiana University.
Mirjam is an enthusiastic violin teacher and has studied pedagogy with Professor Mimi Zweig at Indiana University. She also worked as Professor Zweig’s teaching assistant at Indiana University Summer String Academy in 2009, 2010 and 2011.
In 2012 Mirjam founded her own violin school in Stockholm –
Mirjam Charas Violin Academy AB.
In Sweden, Mirjam has taken lessons in violin pedagogy with Ulla Magnusson. She is also a certified Suzuki™ teacher.
As a violinist, Mirjam has performed with the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Royal Swedish Orchestra, Norrköping Symphony Orchestra and Stockholm Concert Orchestra as well as in musicals such as Kristina från Duvemåla, Evita and Fiddler on the Roof.
Mirjam also performs regularly with her husband, pianist Martin Östergren. Mirjam and Martin have, together with illustrator Nakima Schreiber, created Sweden's first Jewish song book for children, "Barnens Judiska Sångbok", which will be published by Hillelförlaget in March.
Since 2020, Mirjam works as violin teacher and coordinator at El Sistema, Kulturskolan in Sundbyberg.
